Dear friends,
Bishop Zubik has written a new Pastoral Letter to our diocese on the virtue and importance of hospitality. This is a key piece of his vision and dream for our diocese as "The Church Alive." Most of you, by now, should have received a copy in the mail. If not, there are extras in the church, or we can get one for you. Please read it. I find it helpful.
Now that all the special Sunday feasts are complete, we return this Sunday to "Ordinary Time." Even with a few feast days here and there, our liturgical color is green all the way to Advent (November 27th). For me, it feels like a quiet "sigh of relief," "getting back to normal." No great important themes or feasts to probe; we just look to faithfully follow Jesus in our ordinary, daily routine, which is no small accomplishment.
Summer is here, and I hope the beautiful days of summer give you a chance to slow down and relax. Whether one travels for vacation or sits on the porch, summer provides a moment or two for body, mind, and soul to all catch up with one another. When you get those slow and peaceful moments, don't be surprised if you feel the urge or need to pray. Jesus always wants to be close to us.
Looking ahead . Next week, July 4th, is a Monday. The parish offices are closed, of course, but there are three morning Masses that day, just as we had on Memorial Day.
